Job Summary and key responsibilities
The Senior Solution Architect plays a critical leadership role within the Technology function, shaping and governing solution design across the organisation. This role bridges business strategy and technical delivery, ensuring that change initiatives, new technology investments and acquisition integrations align with enterprise architecture principles, security standards and financial objectives. The role combines solution design leadership, governance oversight and acquisition architecture support. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the role operates across all technology domains and partners closely with Infrastructure, Digital Development, Data, Security and Portfolio Change teams.
Key Responsibilities:
The Senior Solution Architect plays a critical role in shaping and governing solution design across the organisation. This is a newly created role that will:
Solution Architecture & Design Leadership
Translate business requirements into robust, scalable and secure solution designs
Produce high-quality Solution Design Documents (SDDs) and supporting artefacts
Ensure solutions address functional and non-functional requirements (performance, resilience, security, scalability, cost, operability)
Define integration approaches, data flows and architectural patterns
Ensure alignment with architecture principles, standards, roadmaps and cloud strategy
Provide architectural direction for both large transformation initiatives and smaller change projects
Contribute to the evolution of LRG’s technology strategy
Provide guidance and assistance to LRG’s technology team, including other Solution Architects
Acquisition & Integration Architecture Working alongside the Acquisition Programme Manager:
Conduct technology due diligence on acquisition targets
Assess application landscapes, technical debt, infrastructure posture, integration complexity and risk exposure
Provide architectural input into valuation considerations and transition planning
Define high-level target state architecture and integration roadmaps
Support post-acquisition integration planning and rationalisation
Identify opportunities for consolidation, simplification and value creation
Commercial & Vendor Evaluation
Critically assess third-party and vendor technology proposals
Support investment decisions with technical and commercial insight
Evaluate total cost of ownership and long-term sustainability of proposed solutions
Ensure vendor solutions align with LRG architecture standards and strategic direction Knowledge Areas
Application and integration architecture
API and event-driven design principles
Data and information flow modelling
Security and compliance considerations (e.g. GDPR, secure-by-design principles)
Non-functional requirement definition and validation
Cloud and SaaS solution patterns
What are we looking for:
Strong understanding of application architecture and integration patterns
Experience translating business requirements into technical solution designs
Proven experience writing solution design documentation
Experience presenting designs to governance forums (e.g., TDA or equivalent)
Strong understanding of architecture principles and how to apply them pragmatically
Experience working across multi-team environments (Infrastructure, Development, Data, Security)
Ability to assess third-party/vendor solutions critically
Experience contributing to architecture governance processes
Experience supporting mergers & acquisitions (due diligence or integration)
Demonstratable exposure to architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF or similar)
Experience in building or maturing governance frameworks
Financial awareness in technology investment decisions
Experience in regulated or complex enterprise environments
Strategic thinker with pragmatic delivery focus
Strong stakeholder engagement skills
Confident presenter at senior forums
Analytical and structured problem solver
Commercially aware
Influential without formal authority
Comfortable working in ambiguity
